Eligibility Determination

Any person with a disability physically present in NM may apply for DVR services. If you are interested, get started here or contact the office nearest you and schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor.

During the initial interview, the counselor will explain the rehabilitation process and request information about you. You will be asked to assist in the gathering of information from other agencies and/or individuals needed to determine your eligibility. Any medical, psychological, or education information that can be brought to the initial interview will serve to facilitate the application process.

Upon submitting your application, DVR has up to 60 days to determine your eligibility. You will, therefore, need to work closely with your counselor to obtain and provide any requested records pertaining to your disability, provide honest and accurate information, and keep all scheduled appointments. All information is confidential.

TWEs are placements with a realistic work setting which allows for exploration and assessment of the participant’s abilities, capabilities and capacity to perform in work situations. Possible examples of TWE placements include structured volunteer work, situational work assessments with proper supports, supported employment, OJT, internships, job shadowing and other experiences using realistic work settings. TWEs must be of sufficient variety and over a sufficient period of time for the counselor to make an eligibility determination.

Some services, such as evaluation and counseling, may be provided to you at no charge.  However, you may be asked to share in the cost of other planned services, depending on your financial resources.
